how can i host an online game from behind a router?
New to this wireless stuff so I need some help. I am on NTL cable and had a static IP address. This was great for me and my mate playing multiplayer games. I could never connect to him as he had a router and for some reason it would not work
Anyways, today I bought a Belkin G+ wireless router and card and set it up. I now have a working wireless connection with a completely different IP address. My buddy can no longer connect to my computer to play games now. I don't even know where my original IP has gone when I type IPCONFIG on the command prompt.
Could someone please explain to me how I set it up so my mate can join my IP address to play games (in layman terms if possible)
I'm using Windows XP.

You will have to know a few things:
What port is needed to play the video game online. Search for the video game name and the word port.
You will ahve to login into your router and create a rule to have your router/firewall forward connections at that static IP given to your router now instead of your PC and at the specific port. These are generally called routing rules or forwarding.
use ipconfonfig or look on the router to see what your computers IP is and then forward that port to the IP of your computer.
It is good thing to have a hardware firewall like this, sometimes it takes some time but you never want your home PC sitting with no Hardware firewall and a static IP.
